HISTORY
Our first house is situated on a beautifully manicured 35-acre campus which was once home to the Youngstown Developmental Center, but shuttered by the State of Ohio in 2017. The Western Reserve Port Authority in conjunction with the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board and the Mahoning County Commissioners worked together and invested $1.3 million dollars in renovations and upgrades to the ten buildings that sit on the campus. The goal of the Campus of Care is to bring nonprofit agencies together who provide resources and supportive services for individuals with developmental challenges. This newly renovated, multi-faceted residential and workforce training center houses numerous agencies that include I Am Boundless Inc., Compass Family & Community Services, Alta Behavioral Healthcare, TWI (The Workshops Inc.), Flying High Inc., and Cadence Care Network.
Since the Campus of Care launched in 2020, Building #8 was the only building that had remained vacant.
On September 14, 2019 the Lord dropped a vision to help former foster youth in Marcie Consiglio's heart. On December 3, 2020 she established Moab House as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, became Executive Director, and formed Moab Houses' founding board. From 2020 until 2022 Moab House worked tirelessly to share the vision, fundraised toward establishing our first house, and searched for the perfect house. Although we had looked at many properties, they either missed the mark or were unavailable. Frustrated, Marcie reached out to Jeff Orbin of Cadence Care to help fulfill the additional needs they had for their former foster youth. Moab House joyfully gave clothing, household items, microwaves, mattresses, and cash donations. We were excited because we finally felt like we were making a difference in the lives of former foster youth- our mission! Shortly after this we were contacted by Cadence Care who recommended us to the Western Reserve Port Authority for consideration to be the tenant of Building #8. On December 29, 2022 our team toured Building 8 at the Campus of Care in Mineral Ridge and saw its amazing potential. After months of waiting, on May 24, 2023, Moab House was chosen as the nonprofit of their choice to take possession of Building 8!
Our first group of volunteers gathered together on June 26, 2023 to do an initial cleaning and blessing of the building and after four years of praying, searching, and contending for this vision, on December 1, 2023 Moab House opened the doors of House #1 and began moving in our first MYA’s! (Moab House Young Adults.) Today, Moab House welcome former foster youth who have emancipated from the State of Ohio foster care system and who desire to develop the skills necessary to live independently! Welcome to the family!
Meet Lori & Sati! The most important people to you will be your House Parents. This couple has dedicated their lives to foster kids, in and out of the system. The house parents are trained to serve MYA's (Moab House Young Adults) as a leader, advisor, mentor, teacher, and resource person.
Core responsibilities of our house parents include assisting our MYA's in their transition from foster care to independent living, handling daily operations of the house, teaching skills in the areas of financial planning and management, food planning and management, household planning and management, as well as relationship building, and maintaining an atmosphere that enables our MYA's to feel supported and to learn all they can so they are prepared to step into their own independent living environment.
Meet Marcie! Since late 2019 when the Lord dropped the vision of Moab House into her heart, she has worked hard to make the vision for transitional housing a reality. Marcie has a heart for kids of all ages.
From the beginning of her walk with the Lord she always found herself helping in the church nursery, helping with kids ministry, leading a Junior Bible Quiz team, and even being part of the youth ministry leadership team. It is her desire to see that our MYA's feel safe, loved, and productive at Moab House, and that they are equipped with the tools they will need to be successful.
