One major barrier for former foster youth is transportation. Many can't drive because they weren't allowed to get a permit or car while in foster care. Though there was a federal bill to help foster youth get driver's licenses, it has been paused since March 2023. Without a car or public transportation skills, getting to work or school becomes impossible to them.

However, without access to a safe and functional laundry space, they are deprived of the opportunity to practice this important life skill. Currently, one laundry room is shared by all residents, including the house family. Under the new plan, 4 Moab House Young Adults (MYAs) would share one laundry room, making it even more crucial to ensure that these spaces are efficient, organized, and accessible for all.

Without guidance, they may either overconsume out of fear or struggle with portion control, leading to unnecessary shortages. A locking food pantry system will provide structure while allowing them to develop responsible habits in a real-world setting.
Imagine having to rush your shower before someone bangs on the door—or feeling unsafe every time you need basic hygiene. For many of our residents, this was their reality. A private, safe bathroom isn't a luxury—it’s a necessity for trauma recovery.
